Personally I prefer the first method since I don’t have to install Template Manager on the target machines and the “.one” files can also be used with the OneNote web app. When you open up Template manager at the target machine the templates will be available.
Step 4: Install Template Manager on the target machines and copy the templates to “ Users\YourUserName\AppData\Roaming\OneNote Template Manager”.
This files can be copied or saved to the target machines. There you will find your templates with extension “.ont”.
Step 3: go to “ Users\YourUserName\AppData\Roaming\OneNote Template Manager”. Once the wizard is finished your template is saved. If you don’t “Template Designer” will open to create a template. Step 2: create a new Template from the existing page by checking to appropriate checkbox. Step 1: in OneNote go to “Insert è Template Manager”. Once this Add-in is installed you can create and distribute the templates as follows: Open the Page Templates dialog and the should be a new section called “MySchoolTemplates”.Īnother way of distributing OneNote templates is by using the Template Manager Add-in. On other Windows versions this might be slightly different) (This is the Vista style directory structure. #Using templates in onenote 2016 zip
Step 5: on the target machine copy the “MySchoolTemplates.one” file from the zip to “ Users\YourUserName\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates”. Zip the file “MySchoolTemplates.one” to compressed file that you can distribute. Step 4: once all templates are ready close OneNote and go to the “ My Documents\My OneNote” Notebooks directory. Customize each template the way you want it to be. Make sure that you use meaningful titles in the page’s title bar since this name will be used to create the template name. this name will later be used to create a section in the templates dialog as well. Step 2: add a new section to the Notebook en give this section a meaningful name. So if we want to create our own distributable templates we can follow this approach as well. In fact all out of the box OneNote templates are organized by topic into “.one” files. There is no separate file type for templates in OneNote. (which in fact is really easy) but I will explain 2 ways to distribute the templates you made. #Using templates in onenote 2016 how to
I will not go into detail explaining how to build templates.
But distributing OneNote templates (also called stationaries) is not a one click deal. And they have a rich toolset to emphasize certain parts of their notes, add tasks, etc.īut the keep everything nicely organized I want to provide my students with some templates that are customized for lessons at our school. But hey can also add images, video, audio, hyperlinks, etc. Using OneNote my students have a much richer interface to create notes.

They can do so using their own licensed copy of OneNote or use the free online OneNote app that they can use with their Live account. No, I will ask them to use Microsoft OneNote. Next year I will ask my students to no longer take their lesson notes on paper.
Even though the recent school year is not finished, I’m already preparing the next one.
